The Lori Kauffman Volunteer Of The Month Award

Greg Schwartz is the recipient of the May 2010 Lori Kauffman Volunteer of the Month Award

Congratulations to Greg Schwartz, our May Volunteer of the Month! Greg has fostered many dogs, especially dogs who haven't been properly socialized and don't get along with other dogs.

Greg's family had two amazing goldens when he was growing up, so he was naturally interested in helping goldens. He found GRRA online and began fostering dogs in 2008.

Greg remembers each dog he has fostered, but three really stand out in his mind. Sammie was the first dog Greg fostered and reminds him of beginning to volunteer with GRRA. Bear was a troubled dog when he arrived at Greg's home and ended up staying with Greg about six months. The changes in Bear's social skills during that time were amazing. Roy was the last dog Greg fostered. He was a great dog and a joy to foster and ultimately place with the perfect family.

Greg enjoys volunteering with GRRA because of knowing GRRA is giving these otherwise unwanted pets a home and a second chance at finding their forever homes. The best part about fostering is experiencing the joy the family feels when they find the dog that's a perfect fit for them and knowing they will take great care of the dog. Greg and Sammie are pictured above.

Lori Kauffman, who passed away in 2007, was a GRRA™ volunteer who wanted to ensure that GRRA™ continued to do its valuable work. Lori wanted people to know, "Dogs are not disposable. Having a dog is a lifelong commitment. They are an equal part of the family".

If you are aware of a volunteer's efforts that exemplify what is needed to make our volunteer organization survive and thrive, please send a note to volunteer@grra.com. Monthly Nominations are due by the 17th of each month. Click here to see previous award winners.
