Harley written by Hayley A.

Our family is the typical stereotype. We have dad and mom, son and daughter, and two miniature poodles. Even though some people may think that four people and two dogs are all that you need for one household, we did not!

As you can tell we are animal lovers and just adored our two poodles, but we were still missing something. Years ago when the kids were smaller, we watched the movie Homeward Bound. Since that day, both of our children have wanted a golden retriever. Unfortunately, we have never lived in a home that would accommodate the needs that goldens have. We wanted a golden so badly but needed the space to have one.

This past June, that would all change because we moved into a new home. This new home had plenty of room and, most of all, a huge fenced backyard. Our children were so delighted with our new home. The first thing they said when we bought it was "We can get a new dog!"

We went to the Adoption Day in July and saw all the gorgeous faces. Of course, there were our top three we fell in love with, and we could not wait to see if we would get the chance to own one of these amazing dogs! We did! Harley loved us as much as we loved him. Over the next two weeks, we went through the adoption process, with the wonderful help of Judy Glenn. As the days passed, our excitement grew, and we started preparing our house with new toys and beds for our new addition.

On July 21st, we went to the park with our poodles to meet Harley who was with his foster mom, Katie. Our hearts melted, and we were in love! Harley came home with us that day, and our family is now complete. We love him so much, and we think the feeling is mutual. He sleeps with both kids, Drew and Lindsey, every night, moving from bed to bed. He has two new best friends, our poodles, and Ryan, my husband, and I have a new child that we are honored to care for.

To hear about the awful situation he was in prior to coming to GRRA is heart-wrenching. Harley is the most well-behaved, sweetest dog we have ever met. (Don't tell our two poodles!) He will be safe with us, and have a home forever. Thank you so much, GRRA, for helping us find Harley! He does so much more for us than we could ever do for him!
