Smokey & Her Nine Pups!

Meet Smokey and her adorable puppies. The day after Thanksgiving, GRRA was contacted by a gentleman who said he had a chocolate Lab that had delivered 9 puppies the day before Thanksgiving. He was frantically trying to find a group to take the mother and pups since he and his family were not able to keep them. When GRRA called this man back, we discovered that he is an Atlanta fireman who rescued Smokey from a burning house a while back. The house was under renovation so no one was living in it when it caught fire. Well, there were no humans in the home but Smokey had taken up residence. When the fireman discovered Smokey, she was unconscious. He gave her oxygen and started rubbing her belly. Slowly, one leg started to move and then the others followed. The fireman asked around but no one knew of Smokey or to whom she might belong. Having just saved her life, this fireman was not about to just leave her at the site so he took her home. Several people offered to take Smokey but none were felt to be a good fit for her. While continuing to look for an appropriate home, Smokey turned up pregnant.

As you can see, Smokey is not a chocolate Lab. Heck, who knows what Smokey is? We are willing to let Smokey think she’s a Lab if it makes her happy! Her nine puppies – 5 boys and 4 girls – are little black bundles of love. Her story touched our hearts and we wanted to help this fireman find a good home for Smokey and the puppies.
